Alternative Super Bowl Logos

I don't know if we'll be watching the Super Bowl this year as we'll be on the road this weekend, but those of you participating in the gluttony may enjoy this.

The New York Times recently commissioned a handful of designers from around the country to come up with alternative logos for the upcoming Superbowl. Here's the original post.

Reading the comments, seems Felix Sockwell is the only one that actually watches football. His logo (seen below) even comes with a bit of rhyme:

“Hush little Cardinals, don’t say a thing, Ben’s gonna score Steelers’ sixth Bowl ring.”

Cabin fever, be gone.

Parker has been begging to go swimming and I've been begging to get out of town, so daddy granted us both our wishes and we had a little overnight getaway this weekend. It was fun and definitely some good quality family time together.

Parker is fearless in the water. In fact, I'm pretty sure he has gills. For being a total pansy when it comes to so many things, I just am amazed at how comfortable he is in the water. But I'm glad, swimming is a great skill to have for life.

p.s. LBD update:
went shopping. Bought the dress shown with the red shoes. It is a stunner on. Now I must get thee to a tanning bed and gym so as to not embarrass myself in said frock.

And life in the kingdom is good again

Our "perfect storm" of chaos the other night finally subsided. After an overnight visit to the vet, Mia seems to be mostly back to normal and loving her vet-approved diet of canned food (ew) and lots of water. She's back to her usual hiding places which is a good thing.

Parker and I are feeling better--I had the crud way worse than the little man, or he is much more resilient than I thought. (Thanks ST for the tip!!) Hopefully spring isn't too far off so we can get some fresh air and boost our immune systems.

We're going to get a good fix for our cabin fever this weekend and hit the pool and have some quality family time together. Should be fun!

And so it goes

Some days are just better than others. It's a proven fact. And so true around here lately...sigh. So, internet, I'm sorry, but just need to vent.

Parker and I have been fighting nasty colds and last night was no fun. The little man gets squeamish when he has to cough and has a hard time getting back to sleep if he wakes himself up coughing. Last night, he was too upset after a couple of coughing spells and decided he wasn't going to go back to sleep until the wee hours. And then up again at five bells. I'm blaming it on the coughing. Or teeth. Or something...but it was a loooong night. And there were lots of tears, and not just by Parker. I think my feeling under the weather didn't help.

And then there's Mia, our phantom pooper, (she likes to drop a@@ right outside the litter box when we aren't looking) who suddenly stopped pooping. As in altogether. Poor girl is stopped up like, well, I won't say. Last night that came to a head too. Cooper kept following her around and trying to protect her. That was sweet.

So you have crying kid, stopped up cat, and a mom and dad who just want sleep. Of course this is the week that I'm on some crazy awesome deadlines with some crazy awesome new projects and trying to deal with all this. It's enough to drive a woman crazy. :)

And while some days are better than others--really good days tend to follow the really bad ones. And today, we were treated to 65ยบ, sunshine, and an improving attitude.

Mia went to the vet this morning and it looks like what we already knew, she's full of sh*t. Ha! Seriously though, she is doing very well, is acting like her normal crotchety self, and is staying overnight for observation. We should bring her home tomorrow, but it's very weird to be home without her. Cooper is quite lonesome and keeps "looking" around for Mia.

Parker of course got a rockstar nap and acts like he feels much better today aside from a little nagging cough here and there. He even went and sat super still for a haircut this afternoon and lost the 'fro. It was about time...

Glad tomorrow is Friday--another new day and chance to start all over again. :)

What to wear

We've been graciously invited to attend a black-tie fundraiser/event with our BFFs next month...which I'm super excited for and yet terrified since I have nothing to wear. It's a good excuse though to find a new LBD (little black dress) and maybe something a little fancier or out of my comfort zone—just because I can. Personally I'm in love, love, love with the Vera Wang Lavender Label gunmetal dress (partly because I adore knife pleats). So, internet, here are my options...

Dresses

Ok. And the denim skirt is a joke. Mostly because I can't believe the store I found it at would have something so horrendously ugly. I mean...ew.
(Sorry if I've offended anyone's fashion sense. Perhaps we should talk about hiring you a stylist.)

Like, Totally Rad

Reading a fellow photog's blog yesterday I couldn't help but share this unbelievably awesome theme for a baby shower--80's prom. I say this with a little tongue in cheek as some former co-workers actually have said project in the works (although not a baby shower, just the 80's prom part). The party was so meticulously planned I can hardly stand it--so thoughtfully planned out! Check out her whole post here and laugh along at the great time they had.

A 80's themed cake—complete with Garbage Pail Kids cards littered around the bottom. See what I mean about meticulous details?

And some of the hilarious outfits. The backdrop is a total riot.

Spoken

A story for some of the M uncles.
Somday I'm gonna be in big trouble for this...

Parker had his usual evening bath and was being squirmy about putting on a diaper. Giggling and running away, his naked little butt shimmy-d and shook down the hallway. We finally got him corralled and settled down to put a diaper on, when he breaks wind and GIGGLES out loud.

Trying with all my might to keep a straight face, I asked, "Parker, what do you say when you do that?"

"Momma, I POOP AIR!!"

The gold token

Over the holidays last year, we attempted to take Parker to ride the horses on the beautifully restored carousel near my parents' house. But he wouldn't have it, and for a year I kept the shiny gold token in my coat pocket with the hope that we would try again with better results.

Patience paid off. Parker was thrilled to see the horses go up and down as we spun round and round, seeing the bright lights and gold mirrors reflect the winter sunshine off our laughing faces. He wouldn't sit on one of the horses—"scary, momma," he said, so we sat on a shiny red bench and enjoyed the ride.

Winter Break Wrapup

We're back in the saddle after an extended break—thanks for putting up with the lack of posts lately. :) It was a refreshing and relaxing break; a much-needed end to 2008. It was a huge blessing to spend more time with our families this year, and we loved every moment.

Parker loved Christmas, and was totally overwhelmed at the thought that he received more than one toy--each one he opened was better than the last, and of course he had to play with each and every one of them right now. Which meant a lot of little twist-ties that daddy had to undo. :)

We had lots of family time! Got to meet our new niece, the beautiful (and sleepy) baby J, shopped, spent time with extended family, played games, shared wonderful food and stories...but the highlight was an impromptu ice skating session. The smallest skates they had fit Parker perfectly—and he LOVED it, like he had been doing it for years!

Even daddy, who had never been on skates, put on his brave face and impressed me with his balance skills!

Photobucket

It's a memory I'll never forget. Having grown up in the land of snow and cold, I couldn't have been more excited to share something with Parker that I had such fun memories of. And look at those sweet little skates!

Sunrise, sunset

Before we had left for winter break, we experienced some beautiful sunsets. Hard to say if it had anything to do with the amount of snow/ice in the air at the time, but the colors and reflections were breathtaking.
